Award & Scholarship Information

Opera Foundation Australia are proud to offer five prestigious and comprehensive Awards and Scholarships in 2009. Four are for young Australian opera singers and one, the Bayreuth Opera Award is for an Australian operatic artist who is either a singer, conductor, repetiteur, designer or director.

For four of the Awards & Scholarships age restrictions apply to applicants as follows:  
The American Institute of Musical Studies Award (AIMS)  & the Audi German Opera Scholarship - applicants are required to be between 20 and 30 years of age. The Vienna State Opera Award - applicants are required to be between 25 and 35 years of age. The Lady Fairfax New York Scholarship - applicants are required to be between 20 and 35 years of age. The Bayreuth Opera Award- no age restrictions apply.

The level of experience varies, with operatic potential, musical background, artistic aptitude and completion of an initial period of operatic training required for all and stage experience essential for the Audi German Opera Scholarship and the Vienna State Opera Award. The Bayreuth Opera Award is for an Australian artist of any age who is professionally engaged in the defined categories above. 

The period of study for each award and scholarship varies and ranges from one month, for the American Institute of Musical Studies Award (AIMS), to twelve months for the Audi German Opera Scholarship.

The Lady Fairfax New York Scholarship, and the Audi German Opera Scholarship require direct applications and will be followed by audition and finals interview/workshop and competition.

The American Institute of Musical Studies Award, the Bayreuth Opera Award and the Vienna State Opera Award. require the applicant to apply directly and in conjunction with a nominator,  to provide written references, proof of language study, followed by audition and selection.

Nominations can be sought from Australian opera companies, conservatorium, schools of music or other tertiary music institutions or from any individual with professional operatic involvement. 
 
All applications for Award and Scholarships must reach Opera Foundation Australia no later than 27 February 2009.
